SLIDER

Art studio

For my eighth module, alongside River Crescent, I was tasked with designing a real life space. My friend Beth is a rug tufter and had found studio space at Maltby's Creative Mill in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, so I asked if I could help design it. At the time of submitting the module (March 2022), the mill was undergoing construction and Beth was using a temporary studio space on the ground floor while her main studio was being built. I was able to visit where her main studio would be and measure up for my module. Beth requested her studio feature soft textures, curvy shapes, a bright colour palette, bold patterns, vintage pieces and a Gustaf Westman influence. She has a collection of vintage glassware dating back to the 80s as well as lots of yarn cones for tufting, so having somewhere to store and display her belongings was important. (2023)
